201 Park Avenue is a custom house in Monmouth Beach, the small borough on the barrier strip between the Shrewsbury River and the Atlantic, just north of Long Branch. Alex GC supplied the complete window and door package for it on the Alumil aluminum system: every frame fabricated to the opening schedule, assembled, and delivered to site for installation. The photographs on this page are from the fabrication stage in September 2022, before any unit reached the house.
A residential job this size is a factory job first. The system arrives as full-length profiles in protective tape — the racks in the photographs hold the stock for the whole house — and each profile is cut to length for a specific opening, marked with that opening’s number, and racked with its mates. The end grain of the cut pieces shows the section: a multi-chamber aluminum extrusion with the polyamide thermal break between the inside and outside faces, which is what stops the frame conducting the cold through.
Frames are mitred at the corners and joined with crimped corner cleats, then squared on the bench before the gaskets go in. The photographs show a sash corner ready for its cleat, a frame being squared, and finished frames tagged and lined up in the hall. Two finishes ran on this house: a light champagne for some of the openings and a dark bronze for others, both factory-applied on the profile before cutting.
On a house with this many openings, the precision has to be in the shop. A frame that is a few millimetres out of square or out of size is easy to fix on the bench and very hard to fix in a wall. Numbering every piece to its opening means the frames arrive on site in the order the crew needs them and go straight in. On the oceanfront, where the salt air is hard on hardware and finishes, a factory-applied finish on a thermally broken aluminum frame is also the right long-term choice for a house that will face weather from the east every winter.
