Scope of Work
A new storefront for a retail shop on a shopping street in Cedarhurst, New York. The whole ground-floor frontage under the awning was rebuilt in black aluminum framing and clear glass: a door with a transom at the left, a second door with a long pull handle within the display front, and full-height glass in the bays between and beside them.
Glass from Sidewalk to Awning
For a shop that sells from its window, the storefront is the display. Here the glass runs from just above the sidewalk to the underside of the awning, in wide bays, so the lit display cases inside can be seen from the street and from passing cars. The black frame recedes behind the reflections and matches the shop's black awning.
The Doors
Both doors are aluminum and glass, each with a fixed transom above that lines up with the head of the display glass, so the horizontal line runs straight across the front. The door at the left has a standard pull and lock; the door in the display front has a full-height pull handle. See storefront doors for door and hardware options.
Replacing a Storefront on a Busy Street
On a shopping street the work has to be quick and the shop has to be secure every night. The framing is fabricated to field measurements in advance, the old front is removed and the new frame is set and glazed in sequence, and the perimeter is sealed to the building. See our commercial aluminum page for the storefront systems we work with.
