A new brick residential building on Lexington Avenue in Brooklyn, with long balconies across the front on each floor. Alex GC's scope was the glass on both sides of the apartment door: the glass balcony railings outside and the shower enclosures inside.
Each balcony is guarded by a continuous run of glass with no posts breaking it up, so from the street the railings read as clean horizontal bands against the dark brick and metal of the facade, and from inside the apartments nothing stands between the living room and the view. A glass railing is a guard first: the glass is safety glass sized for the loads a guard must take, and it is held along its bottom edge in a base that is anchored to the balcony structure. More on the options in railing systems.
Inside, we supplied the glass shower enclosures for the building's bathrooms. On a multi-unit job the work is in the repetition: every opening is measured after the tile is finished, because no two are exactly alike, and each enclosure is made to its own sizes in tempered safety glass so that doors hang true and close properly in every apartment.
Railings and showers are different products, but they draw on the same skills: accurate site measurement, heavy tempered glass, and hardware that has to be set exactly. Having one company do both simplifies scheduling for the builder and keeps one party answerable for the glass in each apartment.
