Windows and doors for a private house at 4107 Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn, all in the Reynaers aluminum system with dark frames. The package includes the large fixed and opening windows on the front, an arched window under the curved roof, Reynaers bifold and sliding doors to the balconies and terraces, pleated mosquito screens, and energy-efficient glass throughout.
The house is built in white and dark brick with a curved roof over the center bay and curved metal canopies below. The glazing is sized to match: wide two-part windows on each floor, a tall pair in the center, and above it a window whose head follows the arc of the roof. Reynaers engineers aluminum systems for openings of this size, with thermally broken profiles that stay slim while carrying heavy glass, so the dark frames read as thin lines around the glass.

The doors to the balconies and terraces are Reynaers bifold and sliding doors. A sliding door moves one large panel past another and suits a balcony, where there is no room for a door to swing. A bifold door folds its panels to the side and opens nearly the whole width, which suits the wider openings onto a terrace. Both sit in the same dark frames as the windows, so doors and windows look like one set.

The opening windows and doors have pleated mosquito screens. A pleated screen is a fine mesh folded like a concertina that draws across the opening on slim guides and folds away into its own frame when it is not wanted. One of the photographs shows a screen drawn across a tall, narrow window set deep in the dark brick. On large doors this type is the practical answer: there is no hinged screen door to swing, and no roller cassette to fit.

With this much glass in the walls, the glass does most of the work of keeping the house comfortable. The units are insulated glass with a low-emissivity coating, which keeps heat in during winter and reflects a share of the sun's heat in summer. In the photographs the glass shows the blue of the sky, which is the coating at work. See low-E glass.
