Alex Glass Construction supplies, fabricates and installs glass, windows, doors and facade systems across New York City and the surrounding region. We work from our own shop on Staten Island, alongside a partner company in Brooklyn, and we bring architectural glass in through Oldcastle.
Our work splits four ways, and most jobs involve more than one.
Supply. Glass, windows, doors and hardware to contractors, builders and homeowners doing their own installation. Site delivery on orders over $2,500, or collection from Staten Island by appointment. See material supply.
Fabrication. Aluminium window and door systems built to the surveyed opening rather than to catalogue sizes, including arched heads and non-standard shapes. See custom fabrication.

Waterproofing. We describe ourselves as full opening specialists, which means we take responsibility for the whole opening rather than just the unit that goes in it. See waterproofing.
General contractors and architects, where we deliver the glazing scope against drawings and approvals someone else has secured. Managing agents and co-op boards, on building-wide programmes and compliance work. Commercial and retail owners. And homeowners, from a single replacement to a whole house.
A large share of our work comes through GCs, which shapes how we operate: we quote against drawings, we work to someone else's programme, and we say early when something on a drawing will not build.
Three things run through everything on this site, and they are worth stating plainly because they are how we would like to be judged.
Openings in older buildings are not square. Heads are not the same width as sills, jambs are not plumb, and no two openings on an elevation match. We measure every opening rather than sampling, and on a building we identify window patterns rather than counting openings — because older buildings almost never have one window type throughout.
That takes longer at the front end. It is the difference between units that fit and units that need packing out, and packing out is where air leakage and water ingress start.
Several pages on this site talk clients out of spending money. Triple glazing is often not the answer for noise. Low-iron glass is not worth paying for on vision glazing in a frame. A building may need a hundred new locks and only forty genuine rebuilds. A leaking balcony door is frequently a balcony falling the wrong way.
We would rather give the honest assessment and lose the larger order. It is a better business over time, and it is why contractors come back.
Architecture and engineering require licensure in New York and we do not hold it. We provide glazing-scope surveys, shop drawings for what we fabricate, and buildability review of someone else's design. Where a job needs stamped drawings, you need a registered architect or professional engineer, and we will say so.
The same applies to landmarks work: the Landmarks Preservation Commission approves windows and installations, not vendors. There is no such thing as a landmark-approved contractor. We are the supplier and installer, working to the approvals your architect or GC secures.
