North Brooklyn builds in glass, and the two Williamsburg projects show the range. 24 Frost Street is a structurally glazed two-storey curtain-wall front — no visible frame on the outside, the glass bonded to the mullions — with Everest windows and an entrance door on a mixed-use building. 2 Bushwick Avenue at the corner of Metropolitan is a continuous curved ribbon storefront and curtain wall on all three floors in a custom grey Alutech finish. Both are corner buildings, both are retail below and residential above, and both wanted the glass to be the architecture.
The rest of the Williamsburg and Greenpoint work is the same building type at smaller scale: a new four- to eight-storey building with a storefront on Bedford, Grand or Manhattan Avenue and aluminum windows above, or a converted loft with big steel-look units. Bushwick adds the warehouse conversions with industrial-style divided lites.
