Brooklyn is where we do the most work, and it is really four boroughs. Brownstone Brooklyn — Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens — is landmark territory: wood or clad double-hungs, brick-to-brick, profiles matched to the original, a Landmarks permit before anything is ordered. North Brooklyn — Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick — is new construction: curtain wall, aluminum windows, big lites, structural glazing. South Brooklyn — Sheepshead Bay, Gravesend, Homecrest, Flatlands, Manhattan Beach — is condo and rental buildings, retail on the avenues, and large custom houses. And everywhere in between, the six-storey apartment building that needs its windows replaced without moving anyone out.

Brownstone Brooklyn has more historic districts than any other borough, and the Landmarks Preservation Commission reviews any window visible from the street in them: the profile, the material, the divided-lite pattern, brick-to-brick installation. We prepare the application with profile drawings. Co-ops and condos — common in Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope and along Ocean Avenue — need an alteration agreement before work starts.
