Brooklyn has more historic districts than any borough but Manhattan, and most of the brownstone neighborhoods are in one. Replacing a street-facing window there needs a Landmarks Preservation Commission permit, and the Commission reviews the profile, the divided-lite pattern, the color and the material against the original. We check the LPC map before quoting, propose a system the Commission accepts (Pella, Marvin, Crystal shape series, or a slim aluminum profile where the block allows it), and prepare the elevations, sections and photographs for the filing. Storefronts, curtain wall and any change to an opening go through the Department of Buildings with the architect of record; we supply the shop drawings and the test and energy data for the filing. Co-ops and condos add the board: a window standard, an alteration agreement, insurance certificates and a schedule, which we prepare for every apartment job. On new buildings the energy code and Local Law 97 set the U-factor, and the quote carries the numbers.

Stocked and fabricated lines run three to twelve weeks from the approved drawings; imported European systems and factory-direct container orders three to four months. Installation on a house or an apartment runs one to a few days; a whole building is scheduled floor by floor.
