We stock and supply sixteen antique mirror patterns from two mills — four from one, twelve from the other — which is one of the widest selections available from a single New York supplier. They range from a light overall haze to heavy dark veining, in silver, bronze and grey patinas, on standard and low-iron glass. Sheets on selected patterns run to 96 by 144 inches, with roughly 82 by 96 the common size, so a full-height wall in a Manhattan restaurant or a Brooklyn townhouse can be planned with one or two seams rather than a grid. Every pattern is hand-finished and every sheet differs; we hold a sample board at the Staten Island shop and will send samples of any pattern to a site.

Antique mirror is standard mirror glass whose silver backing has been deliberately aged before the protective paint goes on — acid, oxidation and hand-work produce the veining, speckle and cloud, and the paint locks the pattern in. It reflects a room the way an old Venetian glass does: softened, darker, with the pattern floating in the reflection. Nothing about it is old; the glass is new float, the silvering is new, and it is made to order in current sheet sizes. Cut to size on the table, including large sheets to 96 by 144. Polished or beveled edges — a beveled antique mirror in a frame is the traditional finish. Cut-outs for outlets, sconces and switches on a backsplash or a wall. Holes and notches for standoffs and clips. Safety backing (a bonded film) where the code or the location asks for it, such as a wall a child can reach or a door. Low-iron base glass on any pattern where the reflection must stay colour-true. Antique mirror hangs like any mirror: neutral-cure mirror mastic on a flat, sealed, primed substrate, with a J-channel or clips carrying the weight at the base while the mastic cures; standoffs and cleats for panels that float off the wall; a bead of clear silicone at counters and wet edges. What is different is the backing: the aged silver is more sensitive than a standard mirror to the wrong adhesive and to trapped moisture, so we use mirror-safe mastic only and never a solvent-based product, and we do not install antique mirror where it will be wet on the back — a shower, an exterior wall without a moisture barrier. Cleaning is glass cleaner on a cloth, never sprayed at the edge. Treated that way, the patina is permanent.
