AGC Glass

Japanese-founded global float glass and coatings manufacturer

AGC Glass Overview

AGC is one of the largest glass manufacturers in the world, originating in Japan and operating float lines and coating plants across Asia, Europe and the Americas. It sits at the top of the supply chain: AGC makes the raw float glass that fabricators then cut, temper, laminate and assemble into finished units.

Most people never encounter the brand, because by the time glass reaches a building it has been through a fabricator and carries their name. But the coating on a Low-E unit — the layer doing the actual thermal work — is applied at this level, and it is what determines the numbers on the performance spec.

Knowing which float and coating a unit is built from matters when performance is being specified rather than assumed. Two windows described as "Low-E double glazed" can have meaningfully different U-factor and solar heat gain figures depending on whose coating is inside.
