What a Hydrophobic Coating Is

A hydrophobic coating is an invisible treatment bonded to the surface of glass. Untreated glass is slightly porous and mildly water-attracting, so droplets spread out, cling, and sit there until they evaporate — leaving behind whatever minerals, soap or dirt they were carrying. That residue is what you scrub off later.

The coating fills those microscopic pores and gives the surface a very low surface energy. Water can no longer spread across it, so it pulls itself into tight beads and rolls off, carrying dirt with it. The glass stays cleaner for longer, and when it does need cleaning it takes far less effort.

It changes nothing you can see. The glass looks identical — same clarity, same colour, same light transmission. The difference only shows when the glass gets wet.
