In short: Alex Glass Construction fabricates and installs frameless shower doors in Manhattan: hinged doors, sliding doors, fixed panels and bathtub doors in 3/8 or 1/2-inch tempered glass (clear, low-iron, frosted, reeded or acid-etched), with hardware in chrome, brushed nickel, matte black or brass. We measure after the tile is set, fabricate to the opening with the clearances the hardware needs, and install in a morning. Survey and quote are free; typical lead time is one to two weeks. Shower doors in Manhattan

Manhattan shower work is apartments and townhouses, usually inside a larger renovation run by a contractor or a designer, and usually with a specific glass in mind: extra-clear low-iron glass in a Lenox Hill bathroom, velour acid-etched glass in Tribeca, a laminated reeded panel in Hudson Square (reeded glass cannot be tempered, so it is laminated), and the frameless door and panel in a Gramercy powder room renovation beside the backlit mirror we made for it.

Co-ops and condos set the hours and the insurance; we work to the building rules, bring the glass up by the service elevator, and install in a morning. Marble and large-format tile need the right clips and setting; we have done enough of both to know where the hinge can and cannot go.

How a shower door job runs

  1. Photos and rough sizes for a budget price, or a free survey once the tile is on.
  2. Measurement after tile: width at three heights, height, plumb of both walls, the curb and ceiling, and the hardware the opening allows.
  3. Fabrication in tempered glass with the deductions for clips, hinges and clearances; usually one to two weeks.
  4. Installation in two to four hours, sealed where the hardware meets the tile; a door swings and seals the same day.

Framed and semi-frameless options are compared on framed vs frameless shower doors.

Questions People Ask

Who installs frameless shower doors in Manhattan?

Alex Glass Construction fabricates and installs frameless shower doors, sliding doors, panels and bathtub doors in Manhattan, measured after tile and installed by our own crews. Call 929-235-1233 or send photos of the shower.

How much does a frameless shower door cost?

It depends on the size, the configuration (door only, door and panel, sliding, bathtub), the glass (clear, low-iron, frosted, reeded) and the hardware finish. We quote from photos and rough sizes and confirm after the survey; the quote is free.

When do you measure for a shower door?

After the tile and the curb are finished and the plumbing fixtures are in, because the glass is cut to the finished opening to within a sixteenth of an inch.

3/8 or 1/2 inch glass?

3/8 inch is the standard for most hinged and sliding doors; 1/2 inch is heavier and stiffer, used on large panels and where the look of a thicker edge is wanted. Both are tempered safety glass.

How long does it take?

Typically one to two weeks from measurement to installation for clear tempered glass; low-iron, frosted or reeded glass can add a week. Installation takes a morning.

Can you work in a Manhattan co-op?

Yes. We carry the insurance co-ops require, work within the building hours, protect the common areas and bring the glass up by the service elevator; most installations are done in a morning.

Can I get reeded or fluted glass in a shower?

Yes, as laminated glass, because reeded glass cannot be tempered; the Hudson Square panel is an example.
