Storefronts In Manhattan: Installation, Replacement and Repair

Aluminum storefront systems, entrance doors, transoms and glass in Manhattan for restaurants, retail, offices and building lobbies, fabricated at our Staten Island shop and installed by our own crews, with the DOB and Landmarks filings prepared by us.

← Storefront Doors

In short: Alex Glass Construction fabricates, installs, replaces and repairs commercial storefronts in Manhattan: thermally broken aluminum storefront systems in any color, narrow, medium and wide stile entrance doors with closers, locks and panic hardware, transoms and sidelites, laminated and tempered glass, automatic and frameless glass doors. We survey, draw the storefront for the landlord, the architect and the DOB, fabricate at our Staten Island shop and install at night or in a day where the business cannot close. Storefront glass replacement is usually same week. Call 929-235-1233 or request a free quote.

Storefronts in Manhattan

Manhattan storefront work is restaurants, retail and lobbies, almost always in an occupied building on a street that does not stop. 128 West 23rd Street in Chelsea is a custom storefront modification for a restaurant; 107 1st Avenue in the East Village opens a restaurant to its patio with thermal bifold doors; a pass-through window on Amsterdam Avenue was built in aluminum tubing for a business that serves the sidewalk; 300 East 50th Street in Turtle Bay is a new ground-floor curtain wall with single and double entrance doors.

Landlords and the Department of Buildings want drawings; the Landmarks Commission wants them in SoHo, the Village, Tribeca and the Upper West Side; the business wants the door working by morning. We draw, file, fabricate at our shop and install overnight or in a day, and we repair what we did not install.

What we build and fix

Neighborhoods we serve

Uptown: Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Harlem.

Midtown and downtown: Midtown, Chelsea, Gramercy, Greenwich Village, West Village, East Village, SoHo, Tribeca, Hudson Square, Financial District, Battery Park City, Lower East Side, Washington Heights.

Approvals and scheduling

A new storefront or any change to the opening files through the Department of Buildings with the architect of record; we supply the shop drawings and product data. In the SoHo-Cast Iron, Greenwich Village, Tribeca, Upper West Side and other historic districts the Landmarks Preservation Commission reviews the storefront design, and we prepare that submission. Sidewalk sheds, DOT permits and overnight work are arranged by us; glass replacement and repair usually need no permit. The storefront door design guide and a storefront glass replacement service call show the details we work to.

Usually within the week for standard insulated units, faster for tempered monolithic glass, and we board or film a broken lite the same day where needed.

Yes, for businesses that cannot close; most storefront replacements are done overnight or in a single day with the opening secured at close.

Do you handle the DOB and Landmarks filings?

Yes, with the architect of record for a new storefront, and we prepare the Landmarks submission where the building is in a historic district.

Can you replace a storefront overnight in Manhattan?

Yes; most Manhattan storefront replacements are done overnight or in a single day with the opening secured at close, after the frame has been fabricated at our shop from the survey.
