Frameless, post-and-glass and spigot glass railings on Long Island, to the New York guard code: measured on every balcony, engineered to the loads, fabricated in tempered or laminated glass and installed by Alex Glass Construction crews.
In short: Alex Glass Construction measures, engineers, fabricates and installs glass railings on Long Island: frameless base-shoe railings in laminated tempered glass, stainless steel or aluminum post systems with tempered glass infill, spigot railings, and glass stair guards. Every balcony is measured to its finished walls and the code gap, the railing is drawn and approved before fabrication, and our crews install it. Survey and quote are free. Long Island railing work is decks, pool surrounds, second-floor balconies and stairs on houses, and the terraces of new buildings near the water. Glass keeps the view that a wood or metal picket railing takes away, which is the reason most of our Long Island railing calls come from the South Shore, the barrier islands and the North Shore waterfront. The system is chosen for the exposure: 316 stainless or powder-coated aluminum posts, laminated tempered glass on frameless guards, spigots on decks and pools. The custom house on Amherst Drive in Woodmere and Surfview Towers in Long Beach show the kind of Long Island houses and buildings we work on; our glass railing work in the city is on glass railings in Brooklyn and the Q-railing stainless and low-iron glass guards in Deal show the coastal specification.
South Shore and the Five Towns: Woodmere, Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Hewlett, Long Beach, Oceanside, Rockville Centre.
North Shore and central Nassau: Great Neck, Manhasset, Port Washington, Roslyn, Garden City, Syosset.
Suffolk: Huntington, Smithtown, Bay Shore, Southampton.
Nassau and Suffolk follow the New York State code: a guard at least 42 inches above the finished surface where the drop is 30 inches or more (36 inches on residential stairs), the 4-inch sphere rule, a 200-pound concentrated load, laminated glass where there is no top rail, and a pool barrier of at least 48 inches where a railing encloses a pool. A new deck or balcony railing is filed with the town or village building department, by us, with the shop drawings and load data. Near the water the wind pressure sets the glass thickness and the post spacing, and we specify stainless fixings throughout.
How we measure a balcony and why the railing is smaller than the slab is explained in how we measure a glass balcony railing.

At least 42 inches from the finished walking surface for a balcony, terrace or roof deck in New York City, 36 inches for a residential stair handrail, with no opening a 4-inch sphere can pass through, and it must resist a 200-pound concentrated load.
Tempered infill between posts; laminated tempered glass for frameless guards without a top rail, so a broken lite stays in place as the code requires.
Four to six weeks from approval to installation: one to two weeks for drawings, two to three weeks for glass and metal, and one to several days on site.
Yes. We check what the slab or parapet can take and choose the fixing (top-mounted, side-mounted or on posts) the structure allows.
316 stainless steel or powder-coated aluminum posts, or a frameless base-shoe with laminated tempered glass, with stainless fixings; aluminum and 316 stainless resist salt air, and laminated glass keeps a broken lite in place in wind.
Yes: spigot and post systems on decks and pool surrounds, with the glass height and the gaps to the code for pool barriers where that applies.
