Premium doors are standard doors taken as far as the design goes: the top sliding systems (Reynaers Hi-Finity and CP 155, Cortizo COR Vision), lift-slides with panels past 400 kg, pivot entrance doors, oversized in-swing and out-swing leaves, minimal frames, polished stainless or bronze-clad entrances, period brass hardware on modern locks, motorised operation, and doors engineered for one building when the catalogue stops. The same three things as a window — the top series, premium hardware and options, custom work — but on a door the third comes up more often, because doors are where architects push: the sliding wall that disappears into the pocket, the front door two storeys high, the pivot leaf a metre wide, the terrace door that has to look like the 1920s French door it replaces and lock like a bank. A premium door starts as a standard system and ends as whatever the drawing needed. Sometimes that is a catalogue product with better hardware; sometimes it is a door we engineered with the system house for that opening.

Systems that move big glass. Lift-slide gearing that lifts a 400 kg panel off its seal and rolls it with one hand; minimal-frame sliders whose meeting stile is a 20 mm line; multi-slides that stack or pocket; bi-folds that clear a whole wall. See sliding doors.
Oversized swing leaves. Front doors and terrace doors past 8 feet, in steel, aluminium or wood, with hinges and pivots rated for the weight and closers that control it.
Hardware. Concealed hinges; pivots; brass, bronze, nickel and living finishes; period cremone bolts, stays and lever sets fitted over modern multipoints; keyed-alike and electrified locks; motorised operation and integrated access control on commercial doors.
Skins and finishes. Polished, brushed or PVD stainless cladding; bronze; any RAL and anodised finish; wood species and stains; two-tone.
Glass. Laminated for security and noise, low-iron, tinted, reeded and patterned for privacy (see the Tower House reeded panel), and insulated make-ups matched to the windows.
Custom engineering. A door designed with the system house for one opening: the two-storey glazed entry slot on Ocean Parkway, the curtain-wall entrance on 300 East 50th Street.
Custom houses and penthouses where the door is the architecture. Landmark townhouses where the rear terrace doors must match the originals. Retail and lobby entrances where the door is the brand — the polished-stainless entrance on a jewellery front, the pivot door on a gallery. Any opening past the catalogue: the oversized in-swing doors on East 71st Street, the steel doors on the Tower House. Buildings where the owner has decided the entrance will be right for thirty years.
A premium door is often the heaviest thing in the opening, and the opening has to be ready for it. A 400 kg lift-slide panel puts most of its weight on the sill; a 300 kg pivot leaf puts a moment into the head and the floor that a standard door never does; a two-storey entrance slot is a curtain wall with a door in it. Before we draw the door we survey the head, the sill and the anchors, and where the structure is not there we say what it needs — a steel angle at the head, a concrete curb at the sill, a pivot base set into the slab. That work is in the proposal beside the door, because a premium door on an unready opening is the most expensive way to get a door that binds.
Priced by what is in it: the system, the hardware, the skin, the glass, the engineering. A CP 155 lift-slide with standard hardware is a step above CP 130; Hi-Finity with motorisation is another; a stainless-clad entrance with matching sidelites and pulls is a package. We itemise every upgrade so the client can take or leave each one. Lead times run ten to eighteen weeks for the European top systems, custom steel and clad doors, and longer for anything engineered.
Survey and structure first: a 400 kg panel or a 300 kg pivot leaf needs a head that carries it and a sill that drains, and we check both before we draw. Full shop drawings, hardware schedules and finish samples; a sample corner or a sample leaf where the finish is the point. Fabrication in our shop for the aluminium and steel systems, closely managed for the wood and clad lines.
