Supply-only windows, doors and glass for contractors and builders: what can be ordered, how the price is built and how to get the order right.
Contractors do not buy windows the way homeowners do. They buy by the job, they know what they need, and they want a price, a lead time and a delivery date they can rely on. This article explains how buying wholesale windows for contractors in NYC works: what trade supply covers, what is made to order, how pricing is built, and how to place an order that arrives right the first time.
In most building materials, wholesale means stock on a shelf at a lower price. Windows are different. Outside a few standard residential sizes, almost every window on a New York job is made to order: the size, the configuration, the glass and the finish are specific to the opening. So for windows, wholesale really means trade supply: supply-only orders to contractors, builders and developers, priced for the trade and for volume, without a retail showroom margin and without installation unless you ask for it.
We supply this way to general contractors, window installers, builders, architects buying for clients, and property owners with their own crews. See material supply for the full list of what can be ordered without installation.
A window price has five parts: the frame system, the glass make-up, the hardware, the finish and the quantity. Contractors get the best number when they control the first four and maximize the fifth.
With that, a quote can be turned around quickly. Without it, the quote is a guess and the order will be revised.
On a supply-only order the contractor is responsible for the dimensions and for the installation; the supplier is responsible for making what was ordered, to the stated performance, and delivering it undamaged. To keep that line clean:
If you would rather we take responsibility for the measurements, we can measure the openings for you, or install the package.
Made-to-order windows are not next-day items. Lead time depends on the system, the finish and the season, and imported systems take longer than those we fabricate locally. Ask for the lead time on the quote and order to suit your schedule, not when the openings are ready. Deliveries can be made to the site by floor, or the order can be collected from our Staten Island location at 7 Beach Street by arrangement.
A general building supplier sells windows as one line among thousands. A glazing company fabricates and installs them every day, which matters when the job is not standard: an arched head, an oversized fixed lite, a sound requirement, a landmark profile, a storefront to match the windows above. We can tell you before you order that a size is beyond what a system can carry, or that a cheaper configuration will meet the same specification. And the same order can include the storefront, the shower doors and the mirrors.
Most of our trade customers order again. Once we have built a window type for you, the next quote for the same system is quick, and details such as your usual sill, trim and hardware choices are already on file. Tell us if a job is one of several; it helps us plan production and price the series, not only the first order.
Yes. Contractors, builders and developers can order windows supply-only at trade pricing. Most windows are made to order for the job, so wholesale means trade supply, not stock off a shelf.
Pricing improves with quantity and repetition of sizes. Ask for a quote on your list; a single replacement unit and a whole building are priced differently.
Yes, deliveries are made to the site, labeled by opening, or orders can be collected from our Staten Island location by arrangement.
Custom-made windows cannot be returned. That is why every size and handing is confirmed in writing before fabrication.
Yes. If you prefer, we measure and take responsibility for the sizes, or install the windows as well.
